Senior Design and Technical Architect

Job description

We are seeking a full-time, experienced, registered and very creative Senior Design Architect to join our team with key responsibility for the overall architectural design specifications on multiple commercial projects as well as our company design standards. The Architectural Design Professional will develop detailed design intent specifications for all building products, as well as technical solutions to project design challenges.

The position will require you to gain full understanding our client’s design intent, space requirements, building program and target market, any specific qualities or unique features they may need, and based thereon reach an agreed upon design direction to define and develop all the important aspects of the project, interior and exterior materials and functionality and produce a set of conceptual drawings and outline specifications that your team will hand over to the BIM Modeling team to complete the Revit Drawings and Construction Documents using iBUILT’s Design Standards.

It will also require daily coordination with the Business Development, Manufacturing, Engineering and Procurement teams, frequent presentations to our developer clients, and the ability to act as the primary design liaison between our clients and our internal teams. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Presentation of design ideas to our clients using images of our other projects, hand sketches, and models to help visualize the size, shape, and relationship of spaces to each other.
  • Development of design intent standards and templates for all building products as part of standardization.
  • Lead project team coordination for incorporating design intent into the construction documentation.
  • Research products and provide cost effective, value engineered solutions that will achieve the same project objective
  • Identification of products and systems that accomplish each client’s design intent
  • Review of all Revit design documents including BIM objects and Bill of Materials and consult with the Design, Production and Procurement Departments, as appropriate, to ensure that the design intent is being maintained
  • Create and maintain our architectural product catalog
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience practicing as a licensed, architect; knowledge of modular construction a plus.
  • S. Architectural registration required, licensed
  • At least 3 years of experience leading a project team
  • Execution of at least one building project from design to construction documents on a building over 100,000 square feet
  • Deep knowledge and experience with residential and hospitality construction; office, retail, and healthcare a plus
  • Strong design abilities focused on space planning and creating efficient structures
  • Ability to make decisions on materiality and detailing
  • Thorough knowledge of multi-family residential and commercial technical and code issues and the ability to analyze code requirements
  • The following capabilities when it comes to working with BIM software:
  • Comfortable utilizing 3D Surface Modeling platforms (McNeel Rhinoceros 6+Grasshopper preferred).
  • Comfortable utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) platforms and Revit (Autodesk Certified Users preferred).
  • Experience participating in a BIM Execution Planning process and adhering to defined standards for model exchange, design authoring, drawing production, and design review within a common data environment (BIM 360 Design preferred).
  • Capable of conducting BIM-based coordination, issue tracking, and quality assurance using a model checking platform (Autodesk Navisworks, Solibri Model Checker, and/or BIM 360 Coordinate preferred).
  • Experience successfully producing BIM that is compliant with data requirements and Level of Development (LOD) expectations for a project.
  • Demonstrated abilities to creatively design, lead and coordinate with teams from Architecture, Engineering, and Building Manufacturing departments to set architectural design standards and oversee the conceptualization and design development phases of our unique developer-centric, design-build volumetric steel building process.
  • Ability to both lead and delegate, by giving clear instructions, mentoring as required, and following up to gauge team members’ progress.
  • Ability to be schedule driven while maintaining focus on the overall design objective.
  • Have a clear understanding of design, constructability issues, and communicate such issues to the architecture, engineering, manufacturing, and site construction teams.
  • Knowledgeable with various high-rise construction systems.
  • Should be comfortable in project management software and with task tracking systems used to communicate with all other team members.
  • Detail oriented and strong documentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – Motivating, influencing the team to meet or exceed goals in a positive manner.

Projects will be comprised of residential mix-use, hospitality, healthcare, education, and commercial sectors. As part of your role, you will need to communicate with the BIM Modeling team, software development, manufacturing and engineering teams pertaining to technical, code, and constructability issues, while also keeping the abreast of all issues and meeting required deadlines.

Education and Registration:  Professional (NAAB Accredited) Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Master’s Degree preferred, and U.S. Architectural registration required, licensed

Work Location: This position is primarily remote at this time, but may require periodic visits to our Berwick offices located at 499 W 3rd St, Berwick, PA 18603.
